WCMC Now Accepting M*A*S*H Applications
Feb 22, 2012
As part of its mission to train and educate young people interested in healthcare, White County Medical Center offers a real-world educational opportunity for local youth during the summer. WCMC is now accepting applications for the Medical Application of Science for Health (M*A*S*H) program, open to students who are going into the 10th, 11th and 12th grades in the Fall 2012.

M*A*S*H is a statewide program sponsored by the UAMS Arkansas Area Health Education Center (AHEC), Farm Bureau, Arkansas Blue Cross and hospitals throughout the state; as such, WCMC serves as a host hospital for the program.

Activities M*A*S*H participants will be involved in include learning basic life support and First Aid; job shadowing physicians and associates in a variety of departments throughout the hospital; animal dissection; learning basic nursing skills; participating in team building activities; listening to guest speakers; and, going on field trips.

“It’s always exciting to get the community involved in what we are doing here at the hospital, and I enjoy being able to give the next generation a chance to see what the medical field is really about,” said WCMC M*A*S*H Director Levi King. “This program is an eye-opening experience for students to see what all is involved in the healthcare field and what it takes to be successful. The amount of exposure that we are able to give these students is unmatched, which is one reason I am honored to be part of this program.”

Eligibility requirements include: a complete application form, due April 2; a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher; a Biology course, either completed or enrolled; four letters of recommendation about how the student will benefit from M*A*S*H; and, a 100-150 word essay about participating.

M*A*S*H is open to students in Cleburne, Independence, Jackson, Prairie, White and Woodruff counties. The program will be held Monday, June 11 through Friday, June 22 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at WCMC’s North Campus. For more information about the program, please contact WCMC M*A*S*H Director Levi King at (501) 380-3381 or via email at lking@wcmc.org.
